On Saturday, January 6, 2024, a sports event aimed at bringing together professional soldiers, their families, and friends took place. The 9th edition of the Solidarity Run was held at the premises of the 5th Special Forces Regiment (5th SFR) in Žilina.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions, 49 participants, including children, bravely took part in this year's event. The young participants completed a one-kilometer course, while adults faced the challenge of a 5.5-kilometer-long track. This year stood out not only for the participation of members of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) and the 11th Mechanized Battalion but also for the involvement of retired veterans, highlighting the unwavering will and determination of the military community.
      Runners, whether in sports attire or military camouflage, symbolizing diversity and unity, participated in the event. Each runner crossing the finish line was rewarded with a gingerbread medal, emphasizing that every participant is a winner in the spirit of solidarity.
      After the run, participants and spectators warmed up with hot tea and enjoyed homemade sweets, creating a family atmosphere for everyone involved. 
      Winners of each category received awards from Colonel Peter Žochňák, the commander of the 5th SFR, Colonel Milan Žilinčár, the Chief of Staff of the SOF, and Mr. Viktor Puchoň, the president of the regional Club of Military Paratroopers Sučany and former president of the Club of Military Paratroopers of Slovakia. The awards recognized not only physical endurance but also the strength of spirit and solidarity.
       The Solidarity Run is more than just a sports event. It is an opportunity to showcase solidarity, resilience, and mutual support among soldiers and their families, making this event an annual milestone in the military community calendar.
